Slovenians are mainly Slavic with some German mix. Up to 1918, Slovenia was part of German kingdoms for over a 1,000 years, first with the Duchy of Bavaria and then later on with the Habsburg empire. Under the Habsburg empire, many ethnic Germans settled in Slovenia and many intermarried with Slovenians. By the way Slovenia is considered part of Central Europe. Here are the Slovenian Mori sisters, Eva and Nika Mori. Eva is a well known volleyball player. Their looks are quite common in Slovenia. They seem to have a Slavic with some Germanic mix:

Slovenia is the most clean European .
The less mixed by Asians or Africans .
And a fact that Sloven people did not came from somewhere but are Aboriginals .

Of course they are Slavs. The colloquial Slovenian vocabulary had a lot of German words, in 19th century almost half but today probably less than 20%. But that’s not surprising as Slovenia was part of German states like Holy Roman Empire and Austria for more than a thousand years.

slavic by language and" identity " but germanic by spirit, mentality,, to be more precise south "germanic" alpine -like austria or bavaria..which is not so odd considering they were part of holy roman german empire for at least one whole millenium..

  40. lucca nowak February 12, 2019 at 1:02 pm

the author obviously did not read books from land historican that often "forget" to mention that

until WWII over 20.000 Germans lived only in a place called Kočevje, that comes from german word Gottschee. This region has only german names of villages that were all translated to Slovene language in the time of State of Serbia, Croate and Slovene after WWI- later Kingdom of Yugoslavia and the rest under Tito and communistic dictatorship after the end of WWII, that also committed mass massacre in large scale in this region after the WWII

Even today german words are used in all-day live. Not only in Kočevje region, but all over the country, specialy its nord Štajerska-Stiermark and Koroška- Kärnten. Even in Ljubljana wenn people say for instance « zihr » – that comes from sicher- in german and means like sure or of cause in english.

The capital of Ljubljana/ german Laibach had until begin of 20 ct. more german habitants that the city of Klagenfurt/ Celovec, that lies in today Austria.
There are thousand of german Family names in use all over the country. People in major do not speak german, because use of Slovene language is practiced allover the country. Most of them they are german origin, without knowing one word german or fluid german at all.

Due to geographic position Slovenia is bordering on Keltic (German), Slavic and Venetian culture, therefor there are influences from all parts, mostly however form Keltic and Venetian culture, that is going far into Croatian landscape allover the cost (Venetian republic). The symbol Lion of Saint Mark you can see allover the Slovene and Croat coast.
Duche of Carinthia comes from Carantania that was more or less keltic state, with high developed and very democratic culture.
Allover the country there are important founds of Celtic culture in Slovenia, from whose the most important VAŠKA SITULA.
In Slovenia historican even today do not use expression CELTIC but prefer to use AGE OF IRON or "unknow people « in order to mislead and use it for its own goals…

When you are traveling throw Slovenia take notice on names of the Castles, that you can easly reed on signs only if you drive along Slovene highway. They have all german names, or were translated in Slovene
Traditional Slovenian folk music, from most popular was SLAVKO AVSENIK play « german" style and not Slavic stile with high pitch sound music caracteristic for the Balcan from Cratioa to Serbia
Slovenian national food is not Pizza, not Burek but Sauerkraut and sausage called Kranjska klobasa with its german word Krainerwurst (Krain- from Kranj city)

So are Slovene Slavic / German / Italian ?

all, because they belong to EUROPE and they are EUROPE !
