Justin Bieber returns to NBA Celebrity All-Star game seven years after winning MVP… but is once again on the losing team
He won the MVP the last time he played back in 2011.
But not even the mighty Justin Bieber could inspire his team to victory in the NBA Celebrity All-Star game.
The 23-year-old and his celeb-packed Lakers team fell to a 75-66 defeat to the Clippers in LA on Friday night. The Canadian heartthrob was joined by the likes of Nick Cannon, Stranger Things’ Caleb McLaughlin, Property Brothers’ Drew Scott, Entourage’s Jerry Ferrara, and boxer Terence Crawford.
The Lakers counted Michael B Jordan among their coaches, that middle B obstructing what would have been a major advantage for the team.
They faced off against Jamie Foxx, Arcade Fire frontman Win Butler,Blackish stars Anthony Anderson and Miles Brown, Dascha Polanco, Golf Masters winner Bubba Watson, and Migos member Quavo.
Common helped coached the Clippers from the sidelines.
Bieber and Quavo were late additions to the team, as was the Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist Flea, who allied himself to the former.
Before the game, Bieber and Foxx came face to face, and the ESPN sportscaster hoping for some thrash talk was sorely disappointed to encounter a love-fest instead.
‘It’s all love,’ the pair insisted as the clasped hands and hugged it out.
Trying to spark competition, the interviewer asked Bieber who would win the MVP between them, but Biebs insisted he wanted his opponent to claim it, becasue he already had one.
Foxx then theorized it would likely fall to him, because it was Black History Month, and also because Black Panther was in cinemas.
But in the end it was actually Quavo who was crowned Most Valuable Player; after scoring a game-high 19 points.
The title didn’t surprise many, as the athletic rapper used to be a star football quarterback in college.
While Bieber scored a not-too-shabby eight points, four assists and two rebounds the last time he played in 2011, the MVP was actually awarded via public vote, and the then-teen sensation had a strong Belieber advantage in that field.
This year’s game introduced a new four point line — the ridge — scoring from which would land a $4,000 donation to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund from sponsor Ruffles.
Foxx didn’t score anything during the game; he was possibly thrown off by a pregame interview, which he walked out halfway through after being asked a question about girlfriend Katie Holmes.
Justin Bieber prepared for the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game with pregame pushups
Justin Bieber, who was a late addition to the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game, got down on the floor for a bunch of pregame pushups before the big game on Friday night in Los Angeles.
Maybe this is a thing that will help Bieber win another MVP award (he won the Celeb Game MVP in 2011), or maybe he was just having fun with young motivational speaker/fitness trainer Demarjay Smith.
