After the Fact: Newbie Dash

Time to take a look at a key episode where Rainbow Dash realizes her dream but finds out that life isn’t done.

Thanks to Dustykatt for teaming up with me on this:

And to Missbunniswan for lending her vocal talents as Pinkie Pool:

Well, I dont know how military life is, but the nickname that hurt, boy I used to be the one kid that everyone, litterally everyone, laughed at, nowdays if someone calls me one of those names, knoing or not about my past, I cant help but feeling like Dash, trying to prove them wrong, but in highschool I finnaly had a nickname because I was good at something, and I loved it, so I understand Dash here, and yes if they dont explain you the context behind those names, there could be a big missunderstanding, I liked the episode because at one point I acted like Dash, trying to be someone Im not, trying to changed those awfull nicknames, only to find out that every nickname was worse than the last one, In high school I was called "Galgo" the running dogs becasue in soccer there was no other person who ran as much as I did, and I liked that, I also liked these episode because it brought back memories of good and bad moments I seeing that I ve overcome those names well, is very good.

CallSigns are given as part of an event, or a pun on a name.

Kudos for taking one of the most controversial episodes and making so many fun jokes with it!

from being bullied when i was younger to now being in the military, from my personal experience, there is a difference between it, but it would be difficult to depict the difference. but some who do the "hazing" in the military can be oblivious of the fact that someone is not taking it like everyone else.

Okay how many drinking games do you have in total!
And how is it that you still have some brain cells left?
And I'm not even going to ask what condition your kidneys and liver. LOL
I think you're going to have to start non-alcoholic drinking games.
Because if you woke up joining this branch of the military?
I hate to see what happens next time.
mentally picturing you joining insert morbid thought here then again…

It's curious how so many people think someone having a positive experience, invalidates a negative one- or, conversely, how someone having a negative experience invalidate a positive one. So, if you weren't bullied with nick names- where did you grow up?- but fine, that's a good thing, and I'm glad you saw positive memories in this episode. If you were tormented with nicknames, why does someone enjoying this episode about nicknames being used positively and misunderstood, bother you? I can see your past making the episode itself a bitter experience, but not why someone else feeling good bothers you. Isn't their nostalgia a good thing? Don't we want more nicknames used as terms of endearment rather than terms of bullying? Don't we want more kids open to the idea that maybe they misunderstood certain situations and maybe people DON'T hate them? Can't seeing nicknames as positive make children less sensitive to the attack? I'm sorry, sorry but, someone like the episode because they had a positive experience that is recalls for them, you don't because it recalls a negative one- how does that other person effect you in the least exactly? I have to shake my head and realize, the only crime here is thought crime… that that is even a fair term to use isn't a good thing.

I know what its like to be bullied, I was bullied since kindergarten. But when the life got tough I got tougher! I took my harsh past and made it one of the pillars of who I am today, a better person!

So with that nickname, would that make Silver Quill's nickname as "Silver Quit"? Or should it be "Silver Quitter"?

I am on two thougths with this episode but manly it wasnt the name calling that made this epsiode so painfull for me to watch it was rainbowdash, she made it 10 times worse. but the name calling really didnt help. that said this and other experiences I have read from military men I now know this episode did well with the namecalling and that becomming a member of the military will be never for me, I have much too weak of a heart and a condition of an astmatic. so to all you military men, than you for your servive and to this epsiode…. it was meh

There's one thing this episode made me realise and it's that I'm not cut out to be in the army. The idea of "break them down so you can build them up" doesn't work on me as I'm much more a person who needs validation that I'm doing a good job otherwise my low self esteem comes into play and wrecks my emotions further.

That said, this episode was just kinda "meh" for me, since I don't really like the implication that because the nicknames are a tradition Rainbow Dash should just roll over and play along. Also the fact that this wouldn't even be an episode if either the Wonderbolts or Rainbow Dash would have just communicated properly.

However this episode doesn't bother me as much as 28 pranks later does. That one irks me a lot more in the writing department. Newbie Dash was just kinda lack luster to me.

guys, Pinkie was gathering that cotton candy for a reason, isn't it obvious? she knew Rainbow was going to crash and got it to catch her. ~<3

Anyone notice that Fluttershy was in the background of that Rainbow crash flashback? She looked like she wanted to stand up against them but couldn't.
