Desktop Home Hacks – Allison Randal

A life-long love of hardware and software has grown a series of increasingly curious experiments in the intersection of virtual life with real life, bringing the desktop experience into the home. Inspired by a friend’s X10-wired house in the 1990’s, this talk is a modern take on the “smart home”, employing technologies like Arduino, PandaBoard, WiFi, a handful or so of multi-colored LEDs, 3D depth sensors and Natural Interaction, RFID, DBus, Javascript, text-to-speech, and more.
