Adapting and overcoming based on the facts and a logical rational thought process is what has propelled humanity through time.
    We can do it again.
    Great video once again David.
    Thank you!

Elon Musk and everybody who is following the EV revolution says: "Duh! We told you for years!". But it's great that Republicans now finally see the facts.

Fact based pragmatism is much closer to Eisenhower's day. I've been making similar arguments on many subjects for years concerning how far the GOP really is from true fiscal conservatism. Trump is for big government, and so are the Tea Party crony capitalists who follow him. The thing is they want to privatize all basic utilities while they balloon things out in order the fleece the middle class via our tax system into further and further debt. The GOP treats their voter base like a piggy bank.

Wind Farms are not dense enough to provide the electricity needed. Hydro is not considered "renewable" in my state because it damages fish. Additionally, wind farms don't employ many people, but that should be a minor concern. Solar can be done without taking up any additional acreage. From what I can tell, he basically negotiate a good contract. The actually electricity isnt green or not green, its just electricity.

Please Sir, run in the GOP primary, and after you lose, run as independent in 2020. Please, and thank you.

Why couldn't we have this guy vs Beto???

  19. Ben Briggs December 6, 2018 at 2:01 pm

I enjoyed this video and appreciate your commentary that tries to tie all the clips together. I didn't appreciate your premise that most Republicans are not like this and that liberals are the ones that are usually the rational, fact-based side. I think there are dumb, emotional people on both sides, but to presume that you see this kind of guy on the left much more than on the right. I couldn't agree with you more that it would be great to have real conversations on topics without being called names.

I’m a conservative Christian. He is my kind of conservative Christian. He didn’t try to push climate change. He pushed facts which include economics of a city saving money in energy cost.

Throughout my life I always support/donate/vote for the Republican Party, mainly based on fiscal conservatism. (kind of a generational farmer thing). Based on our last three Town Halls I can speak for 4 generations and our Community, we feel betrayed, within our former Republican Parish. Circa 500 Republicans will not turn out and some have switched. I have never seen such a dramatic change.

  22. MrGeemonty December 6, 2018 at 2:01 pm

So this guy is basically a progressive. I wonder what his political beliefs are on other issues.

  23. Neriana Sims December 6, 2018 at 2:01 pm

The problem is, on the national level the Republican party is run by Christian Dominionists and big oil. Christian Dominionists — like Mike Pence — actively want the world to end as quickly as possible. They see climate change as the way to the Rapture. And they've taken over the conservative Christian part of the United States.

As for most other Republicans, they believe the propaganda started by both big oil and Dominionists, and don't follow the trail of deliberate misinformation back to those groups. (Even most people on the left don't realize where it's coming from — everyone needs to read Fred Clark's website about this.) They do not believe climate change is happening, or if they do believe it, they think human beings have nothing to do with it. Because they believe the propaganda that scientists are lying in order to make money from it, and absolutely nothing will change their minds. Besides, they care far more about trans women in public bathrooms and immigration than about anything else.

Yeah, pat him on the back. But I am not going to make him a statue or write him an ode just yet. There is ALSO an economic and religious argument for disbanding profit making corporations and making the green energy sector pure worker cooperatives, with fair profit sharing. He should talk to the METIS Coop and see how their business is running in an ethical and moral way far more in line with what Jesus would have advocated (see also the ancient traditions of debt jubilee, which essentially was really what got Jesus crucified, he wanted to forgive the indebt slaves their debts to free them. Michael Hudson has written extensively about this.) So if this Republican Mayor is serious and consistent he would not be inviting profit seeking exploitative corporations to run the renewable energy systems. In short: access to green energy should be a commons good, not subject to a market run enterprise. Since States and Municipalities cannot run deficits to fund such social commons, this does bring in the Federal government. My guess is this mayor is still too ideologically blinded to realise this is the ethical and moral way to give people energy.
