Ronda Rousey: I Had Thoughts of Suicide After Holm Fight

February 16, 2016

Ronda Rousey went on the Ellen DeGeneres Show to talk about her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition cover, and spoke for the first time about her infamous loss to Holly Holm — the first loss of her career. After losing the fight, she told DeGeneres, “I was down in the corner, and I was sitting in the corner and I was like, ‘What am I anymore if I’m not this?’ I was literally sitting there and thinking about killing myself.”

She told DeGeneres that she couldn’t imagine being anything other than a winner, that she was nothing to her fans without her undefeated record. But seeing her boyfriend helped her out of it. “I looked up and my man, Travis, was standing there and I looked up at him and was just like ‘I need to have his babies. I need to stay alive!’”

Rousey joins a group of celebrities who’ve spoken out about feeling depressed or having suicidal thoughts. While sad thoughts are normal from time to time, thoughts of suicide are a serious matter.
