Stars reflect on deadly California wildfires at People’s Choice Awards

Celebrities at the People’s Choice Awards on Sunday (November 11) reflected on the deadly wildfires raging in California.

Reality television star Kim Kardashian, who had to flee her home as the fast-moving Woolsey wildfire engulfed Malibu and nearby celebrity neighborhoods, said it had been a rough week for her family. Her home is also near the Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks, where a combat veteran entered a local bar last week and killed a dozen people.

“Our hearts are broken from the horrific shootings and those who have lost their lives and homes, as well as the hundreds of thousands of us that have been evacuated from the devastating fires that are currently burning,” she said on stage as her family collected the award for best reality show for ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’.”

Actress Melissa McCarthy, picking up the ‘People’s Icon’ award, thanked local firefighters and urged the audience to contribute to the Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation.

Designer Victoria Beckham, who was awarded ‘People’s Fashion Icon,’ said she considered Los Angeles her second home. She and her soccer star husband David Beckham lived in the area while he played for the Los Angeles Galaxy soccer team.

“My heart really does go out to everybody that has been affected by the terrible fires and can I add my admiration for the firefighters who are doing such an incredible job,” she said.

The People’s Choice awards are voted for by fans. Big winners of the night included rapper Nicki Minaj, who took home best female artist and best album of 2018, and actress Scarlett Johansson, who was named female movie star of 2018 for her performance in ‘Avengers: Infinity War,’ which also was awarded best movie.

Minaj and rapper Tyga opened the show, singer Rita Ora performed a song from her new album ‘Phoenix’ and John Legend sang a pared down piano version of rock band U2’s ‘Pride,” which got a standing ovation from the audience.

It's almost as if karma has gotten enough of Californian leftist stupidity.

    Pay your debt.
Only you can prevent forest fires.
More controlled burns equal less uncontrolled burns.
    Stop making fires.
    Stop distracting from voter election.
Just stop, whatever your liberal heart is telling you, just don't.

No mention of the people who's entire town has disappeared? Why not ask people to donate BOTH areas that suffering. Also, we need to put into perspective just how complicated it might be for the Kardashians to rebuild as opposed to a small family or an elderly woman who lives alone in Paradise who's whole town has been decimated. The everyday people are the ones who pay Hollywoods bills, perhaps they need to reflect that they have lost items and not loved ones.

Mega rich celebrities asking the average Joe public for donations. Why don't you and the thousands of other millionaires dip into your massive bank accounts and donate then the problems will be solved.
