This Genius Woman Made Her Own DIY Rainbow Highlighter

From Cosmopolitan

Last week the internet found out that rainbow highlighter makeup exists (highlighter is normally a pretty iridescent pearl or champagne shade) and nearly lost its mind over it.

A photo of the magical rainbow product first surfaced on Instagram, and then Reddit users were able to track it down to the maker of the makeup, Etsy shop Bitter Lace Beauty. The Etsy shop was apparently not prepared for the flood of online shoppers who wanted their own "Prism" palette because the shop sold out pretty much immediately.

Shop owner Jenna, who hand makes her products, has been working feverishly to restock the "Prism" palette, which goes for $22.

But Reddit user The Kitten Butcher decided to make some of the magical rainbow shimmer powder herself and detailed her process through text and photos she posted on the site.

First, she grabbed the following products: E.L.F. Cosmetics Ultimate Eye Shadow Palette, E.L.F. Cosmetics Blush in "Gotta Glow," Guerlain Météorites Illuminating Powder, MAC Pigment in "Vanilla," and rubbing alcohol, and then went through the following steps.

The process is basically identical to what you do when you are repairing a broken pressed powder. Crush the powder, add alcohol, and press with paper towel.I chose the pans of eyeshadow I wanted to use, and pryed [ sic] them out of the palette with a knife, and scraped them into a muffin tray to keep the colors separate. I crushed them as finely as I could, then added the crushed highlighter until I was satisfied with the colors.I added alcohol a drop at a time until a paste was formed. Then I used a toothpick to lay down strips of color in the pan. I pressed the pan with paper towel until color stopped transferring, and allowed it to fully dry, which took about 24 hours.

The results are pretty impressive. If you miss the restock this Friday, here are some weekend plans for you, courtesy of Reddit.
