    I'm sure it's implied; but not just "seeing" birds, but "hearing" them too helps me to relax. Especially your first clip in the video, I love that bird song, and have always wanted to watch the bird sing like that, but it is normally out of sight. Thanks to you, I have now seen it sing 🙂

    Hi, Lesley. Really informative and much-needed video for this technological age. Thank you! I too have suffered from anxiety (mostly social) and depression most of my life, and ever since I have put up my bird feeders, and take time out of my day to sit and watch them eat and just generally fly around, I have noticed I have a calmer state of mind, and my spirits are lifted. People need to realize the value of taking a moment to just sit and enjoy nature. I know sometimes I feel guilty for "wasting time" just sitting and watching the birds, but it is NOT wasted time at all. In fact, it is restorative, and nourishing. It is deeply rewarding to fill my bird feeders and watch the birds come. Just last week, a white-breasted nuthatch came to my feeders! I was so excited! I can't wait to see old friends – and new – for many years to come.

    i have a bird feeder ^____^ i started it a year ago and now theres a buncha doves and blue jays and regular birds and a handful of cowbirds!

    my mom built a fence around it to keep cats out but it doesnt keep the squirrels from jumping over or chewing through the wires 🙁

    Hi, i suggest you put "did you know your birding" at the end of the title, so people can see more of what that particular video is about, since most of your video titles start with "did you know your birding". On my mobile i can't see most of the titles of your videos

    A most profound post, Lesley. My younger brother died from melanoma in the spring of 2011. There were 3 beds in his palliative care room, in Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto. The two beds nearest the window looked out onto a walkway that had some Jack Pine trees. The bed nearest the door had no view. The newest patient always got the lousy view. As a patient died, the newest guy would move up to a bed by the window. The trees were a small, but very significant comfort, for the terminal patients and their care-givers. You are a peach, my dear.

    I eat less so i can feed my Blue Jays and others more. There are flapping those wings thousands of times a day. Need a lot of calories for that. So I give my food calories to them. Keeps me from getting Diabetes, and a joy to watch. Deal.

    Thank you for this post! I have been dealing with depression for years, and I was never into nature at all. Then last year, a pair of Mourning Doves arrived at my door, and they changed my life! I look forward to seeing them, along with all the other birds I see everyday. I have never felt so relaxed and calm. I could feel my depression lifting. Now I go outside everyday and I feed the Mourning Doves, Blue Jays, Cardinals, Red Bellied Woodpeckers, Crows, White Ibis and etc. I even feed the squirrels! I was never really interested in nature, but now I can't get enough of it!

    97% of bird species improve societal mental health. The other 3% are comprised of mockingbirds, woodpeckers, and warblers (1% each). During the period between early March and early August of each year, each and every woodpecker in North America visits my aluminum rain gutters, between the hours of 4:30 AM, and 7:00 AM, where they "telegraph" their need for a mate (hey, I guess that I own a woodpecker brothel?).

    Mockingbirds set up house in the Maple tree which is located between the master bedroom of my home, and the street light at the corner of my property, where they teach their offspring the art of mimicking bird calls, between the hours of 10:00 PM, and 2:30 AM – thanks to that damn street light.

    The aforementioned trio of bird species are responsible for "inching me towards the edge"…..
