Mobile hit “Crossy Road” is getting a Mickey Mouse makeover courtesy of a collaboration between original app developer Hipster Whale and the powers that be at The Walt Disney Company.
The Android and iOS game will provide the opportunity to play as over 100 characters from the Disney and Pixar stables: Mickey Mouse appears in a teaser trailer, while Donald Duck was teased in an image posted to the Disney Games Twitter feed.
Character models for Minnie Mouse, Donald and Daisy Duck, Clarabelle Cow, Goofy, Pluto and Pete were also shown during the “Disney Crossy Road” announcement at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco on March 16.
Iterating on 1980s video game classic “Frogger,” “Crossy Road” extended the format with endless levels and unlockable characters when it first launched late on in 2014.
Previous promotional characters have included Pac-Man and Korean pop star Psy; the app won’t be the first time Disney has collaborated with the studio behind a high-profile mobile game, after 2013 saw the release of a Star Wars-themed “Tiny Tower” remake “Tiny Death Star.”
