DIY Hacks & How To’s: Phone Intercom

In this project, I show you how you can make a simple intercom system from a pair of old corded telephones. The phones already have all the circuitry that is needed for processing a voice call. All you need to add is a 9 volt battery and a resistor. This is an easy electronics project for beginners and it is great to do with children. Try it out and have fun.

Wouldn't it be neater to add jacks to the box? That way you could just plug in the phone normally.

Is the 300 ohm resistor a 1/4 watt at 5%?? Just to be clear, it isn't a 300K ohm resistor right? Is it the same as a 1K ohm resistor?

I want to make this but with a speaker on the other end, like an intercom! relay so when I pick up, it turns on, and an amp for the speaker.

  30. nathunder1 September 28, 2017 at 1:27 pm

I've done this project before with great success, but with the 9vdc that you mention at the end, but on my current project I am getting so much "static" or "buzz" that I can't hear anything else; what am I forgetting.  Is this why I need the resister (which I didn't use)?  Thanks.

You can actually do this with cordless as well which allows you to have the bases very close together and the handsets wherever you want.
