To celebrate the release of Sonic Mania Did You Know Gaming extra takes a look at how Sonic’s first game wasn’t his own, then we take a look at how HAL snuck a Kirby Easter egg into another one of their games. After that, we look at how Catherine’s Vincent Brooks cameoed in a Persona game years before Catherine’s release. Then we take a look at Star Wars’ Starkiller’s inclusion in soul calibur, followed by a look at a cancelled South Park game for the Nintendo Game Boy.

Hello you! It looks like we're getting a lot of factually inaccurate comments, stating that Sonic first appeared in The Adventures of Quik and Silva for the Amiga, a game not made by SEGA. But actually, Rad Mobile came out before Quik & Silva, just in arcades and not on a home computer like the Amiga. That and the only source people are citing is our friend Larry Bundy Jr., who actually backs our claim up in his video anyway… Hope that clears up any confusion.

I like how you guys don't make us watch the whole video for what's described in the title. You do it at the start unlike all the life hack videos.

Maya the Bee was very popular in Poland in 90's thanks to excellent dub. It was so good that a lot of people was shocked upon learning cartoon's true origin.

  13. DARK DRAKONIS August 30, 2017 at 2:04 pm

Of all the episodes of South park, you picked that one?

  18. captainzib August 30, 2017 at 2:04 pm

What!? American here, and I used to watch Maya the Bee on nickelodeon as a child all the time.

  19. Swedish Otaku August 30, 2017 at 2:04 pm

Title is clickbait. It's not Sonic who's in the game, it's an object of him.

Kirby is the root of all evil.

  21. Air0087 August 30, 2017 at 2:04 pm

Maya the Bee was known in french speaking countries, I'm sure.

  22. David Lemos August 30, 2017 at 2:04 pm

Just because it was not really known in the United States does not mean it was not known anywhere else. Maya the bee was a big hit in south and central América.

  23. TechnicalCakeMix August 30, 2017 at 2:04 pm

    Sonic the air fresh

  24. Strain42 August 30, 2017 at 2:04 pm

Fun Fact: The Vincent in P3P is NOT Vincent Brooks from Catherine. He's just a very similar looking man that happens to be named Vincent and is going through similar troubles. Hashino and Soejima have both discussed this, and to actually differentiate the characters, Soejima made it so the Vincent in P3P has a mole below his eye, while Vincent from Catherine does not. This was presumably done so that the cameo doesn't raise any questions or concerns about either games continuity.

Isn't it illegal to plagiarize even your own work by trying to pass it off as new material?

  26. Ryan VanLiere August 30, 2017 at 2:04 pm

  28. Laurender August 30, 2017 at 2:04 pm

Maya the bee the tv-series was called Maija Mehiläinen in Finland, but I don't know if the game was released here.

  29. AutisticPhantomOtaku August 30, 2017 at 2:04 pm

Speaking of characters appearing in other people's games before their own game's release, did you know that Tak from Tak and the Power of Juju make cameos in Rocket Power: Beach Bandits one year prior to his own game's release?

  30. Crono Sapien August 30, 2017 at 2:04 pm

It's crazy that one of the most popular videogame characters simply originally had a small cameo.

  34. JazGalaxy August 30, 2017 at 2:04 pm

Some people bash George Lucas too hard. Is Darth Icky stupid? Yes. But they forget how on the nose Han Solo is for the loner space thief. Lucas is a bit of a genius who doesn't do well with second guessing. To the generations that grow up with him, they accept him at face value and he speaks their language. Like, for instance, Darth Maul.

  35. Neurotyczny Kot August 30, 2017 at 2:04 pm

"maya the bee" was insanely popular in Poland…

  36. Niche Carved August 30, 2017 at 2:04 pm

That's weird, I'm an American guy and I know Maya the Bee. It was a part of the Nick Jr. early day block for the little ones. It was the 80's, but I remember it well cuz my little sister watched it. This and David the Gnome. I think she's pretty well known around here, but Mary-Kate and Ashley was probably more prominent at the time.

Or like how they released Corrin to Smash Bros so "people can get familiar with him before the games release" to NA when FE Fates was already released in Japan

What was the name of that version of the Persona track "Soul Phrase?" It sounded like a brass cover or something

  40. Ellen Vermoens August 30, 2017 at 2:04 pm
