In this episode Did You Know Gaming takes a look at some facts, secrets, Easter eggs and history of Super Smash Bros on the N64. Super Smash Bros was developed by HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo for the Nintendo 64. The game later followed by Super Smash Bros Melee for the GameCube, Super Smash Bros Brawl for the Wii, and Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS. This first game is a crossover of Nintendo characters, including Mario, Donkey Kong, Link from The Legend of Zelda, Samus from Metroid, Ness from Earthbound, Captain Falcon from F-Zero, Yoshi, Kirby, Star Fox and Pikachu and Jigglypuff from Pokemon. Through our analysis of the game, its gameplay and its beta, we hope to show some of the more interesting facts we found and have its history explained.

Another cool detail regarding the roster in Smash 64 is that a majority of them (minus Fox and Jigglypuff) team up in The Subspace Emissary: Mario with Kirby, Donkey Kong with Captain Falcon, Link with Yoshi, Samus with Pikachu and Luigi with Ness.

All characters (other than Luigi) had their Character Select icon taken straight from other games art, with a few changes, for example, Mario is from M64 and Kirby, is sword Kirby art with the sword assets removed.

  29. Feargal Ó Gadhra August 30, 2017 at 7:57 pm

Why have they never added King K Rool & more Kongs to the franchise? Also I think the design of the Kongs and K Rool from the Rare days (somewhat realistic features, like K Rool's scaley skin etc) was much cooler than the softer, more cutesy, playdough-lookin' design of nowadays!

Smash 64 is still my favorite Smash Bros. till this day. I find the gameplay so much more fun! Maybe because its simpler, idk. Its just so satisfying when u pull off a correctly timed hit and u hear that loud ass "THWACK!" sound effect. I think its the sound effects that make this game for me lol they're just so hilarious.
